Croatian Language Classes

Learn to Speak Croatian

The United Croats of Canada, King Tomislav Branch is offering Croatian language courses for adults at different levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) at the Croatian Cultural Center. The courses are open to high school students and older individuals who have no prior knowledge of Croatian, have a basic understanding of the language, or simply want to delve deeper into Croatian language and culture.
The lessons will cover listening, reading, writing, and speaking exercises to help students build a strong foundation in grammar, and communication skills in Croatian. These in-person courses will consist of twelve weekly 1.5-hour classes and will be taught by Mrs. Katarina Tomas, a native speaker with a university degree in Croatian Language and Literature, and extensive experience in teaching Croatian as a second language. All learning materials will be provided.

Classes begin September 2024

Meet the Instructor

"Language is not simply a means of communication, it is part of the identity of every person as an individual. Learning to speak Croatian outside the homeland is of great importance, as this is the only way to preserve our own identity. This newly established programme to teach Croatian as a language in British Columbia is a promising step forward for future generations of the Croatian identity.”

My name is Katarina Tomas and I am a native speaker with a university degree in Croatian Language and Literature. I moved to Canada in 2007 and currently live in Burnaby with my husband and two daughters. I have extensive experience in teaching Croatian as a second language, and I am here to inspire you to embark on a fulfilling journey of learning Croatian.
